Northern California CAFETY Chapters mission is to aid CAFETY in spreading public awareness about the "Troubled Teen Residential Program" Industry as well as inspiring involvement with the general public and program alumni.
Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce granted us the opportunity to participate in three Block Parties in the Summer of 2008. The booths consisted of 2 tables, one half dedicated to the tic-tac-toe bean bag game with treats and prizes which were decorated in CAFETY logos, the other half dedicated to generous information about the HR Bill going to senate, residential programs and CAFETY's objective as a non-profit organization. The family oriented booths were successful because we were able to provide a fun and exciting game for children to play while we engaged parents with pamphlets, handouts, testimonial from graduates and conversation about the industry.
Our latest event was San Francisco, CA PRIDE 2011 and was a huge success. We handed out over 1000 pamphlets and stickers, 800 de-bossed rubber CAFETY bracelets and were able to speak to more than 900 people over the course of the two-day event. We made contacts with local outreach programs and acquired 67 new mail-list participants and 17 new volunteers while increasing awareness of programs such as gay reeducation camps and residential programs that have no tolerance for gay students. We would like the thank Beck Meister, Heather Harding, Bev Coluzzi, Kate Allison and Alda Mendoza for their contribution and volunteer time making our PRIDE booth such a successful event.
Our Chapter has also made progress in possible fundraising opportunities through local businesses, radio station spots, recruiting new volunteers and future tabling events from San Francisco to San Diego.
