Three main "products" came out of the two days.

  1. A statement of joint principles that will ultimately have to be voted on by each individual organization.
  2. A workgroup to look at issues related to licensing and standards, which may also look at what practices constitute abuse.
  3. A workgroup to look at issues related to marketing.

This material was created for use at the American Association of Children's Residential Centers (AACRC) and National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP) July 2011 National Gathering to provide trade organizations that represent residential programs for youth and various other stakeholders with an overview of the ongoing difficulties residential placement causes some youth and practices that CAFETY has come to identify as problematic.

This handout follows the following format:

We presented our advocacy position(s), followed by a graph or written percentages of data taken from the CAFETY Survey, and/or quotes of respondent experiences. Then, to further highlight the relevancy of our concerns, we provide three narratives detailing the experiences of three different respondents at four different programs placed on or after 2006.

If you wish to know more about the format or the agenda of the meeting or download CAFETY's advocacy material, please feel free to do so below.  In the upcoming week we will provide our members and the public with a report on the meeting.
